Gib Brown, President & Geologist
Gib is President and Owner of H&L Exploration, LLC. He earned his BS in geology in 1976 from the University of Texas at Austin and his MS in geology in 1979 from West Texas A&M University. Gib worked as an exploration geologist for Pennzoil (Houston), CIG Exploration (Amarillo), and Pogo Producing Company (Oklahoma City) prior to joining H&L Operating Co. in 1980. In 1999, he acquired half interest in H&L Operating. In 2008, Gib formed H&L Exploration Company, LLC for the sole purpose of drilling and operating horizontal Cleveland wells. In 2011, he purchased remaining interest in H&L Operating. Gib’s expertise lies in the conventional and unconventional reservoirs in the Mid Continent. He is a member of AAPG, PGS, SIPES, PPROA, OCGS, and KGS.
Sergio Carbajal, Accounting Manager
Sergio serves as head of accounting for H&L. Sergio earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico in 2001. Sergio moved to Amarillo and joined the staff of H&L in 2013, bringing with him more than a decade of management and administrative oversight experience. Sergio’s responsibilities include management of all oil and gas accounting as well as oversight of support staff for both the Amarillo and Perryton offices. In addition, Sergio manages payroll, IRS and government reporting, insurance, coordination with independent audits, and owner relations. Sergio is married and the father of three girls, including twins.
Luis Cortez, Field Supervisor
Luis is the Operations Superintendent for H&L, and has served in this capacity since joining the company in 2006. Luis contributes over two decades of valuable field experience in the oil and gas industry, including previous work as a roustabout, pumper, construction hand, and rig supervisor. Luis is married, has four children, and enjoys spending time with his four grandchildren. In his spare time, Luis enjoys performing charity work.
Marcin Florek, Landman
Marcin serves as the Landman for H&L. Marcin earned his bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M University in 2002. Before joining the H&L staff in 2021, he was a contract landman working for several land brokers since 2004. His work has taken him to several states, including Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota. Marcin provides H&L with expertise in title work, mineral leasing, surface damage settlements, JOAs, and participation agreements and elections. He is married to a special education teacher and has one son.
Randy O’Neal, Operations Engineer
Randy O’Neal serves as H&L’s Operations Manager. Randy holds both BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from Texas A&M University. Randy’s career in the oil and gas industry began in 1976 and has included Texas Pacific Oil Company, Sun Texas Co., and JCR Jr. Operating Co. In 1988, he co-founded Canyon Exploration Company which he sold in 2001. He then founded S&R Energy/Stonetown Properties LTD to explore for oil and gas in the Texas Panhandle. In 2010, he joined H&L in the early stages of the horizontal Cleveland program to provide drilling and completion expertise. His responsibilities include production engineering, reservoir engineering, and drilling and completion engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and past president of the Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners Association (PPROA). He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
Shea Rascon, Perryton Office Manager
Shea Rascon is the H&L Perryton Office Manager and has served in this role since 2010. Shea’s responsibilities include yard inventory, field communication and reports, as well as oversight of accounts payable and insurance – both MSAs and liability certificates. Shea has nearly two decades of experience in the oil and gas industry. Her previous employment includes serving as District Secretary for BJ Services and as an Administrative Assistant for Beautech Inc. Outside of work, Shea enjoys time with her husband, kids, and granddaughters.
Beverly Robinson, Production Accounting & Reporting Specialist
Beverly joined the staff of H&L in June 2011 and currently serves as Production Accounting and Reporting Specialist providing production information to the Texas General Land Office, Texas Railroad Commission, and government agencies in both Oklahoma and Kansas. Beverly has over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and has worked for the Oil Development Company of Texas, the Coline Corporation, and Santa Fe Energy. Her expertise lies in accounting, corporate planning, and capital budget and forecasting. Beverly has ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She and her husband are active members of Pleasant Valley Christian Church in North Amarillo.
